Albuquerque, June 19—Today is Juneteenth National Independence Day, a federal holiday that celebrates freedom. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of formerly enslaved African Americans. On June 19th, 1865 Union soldiers brought news of freedom to the enslaved in Galveston, Texas. The date marks the end of slavery and a turning point in our nation.

The Emancipation Proclamation has allowed African Americans the opportunity to pursue the American Dream, to live in a free society and afforded them the power to vote.

The Republican Party and Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. The GOP will always stand for freedom and liberty.

The following is a statement on Juneteenth from Jewll Powdrell, an African American and member of the Republican Party of New Mexico’s Executive Committee:

“This date is an important part of our country’s history, and it must be honored. History has shown and continues to show that until Black Americans change our thought processes, we will continue to endure the same circumstances as we have over the past 200 years. Juneteenth carries with it the responsibility of all Black Americans to once again focus on the fact that the law does not require you to vote, but voting is a very important part of our democracy. Voting is a right that as Americans we should all exercise. The vote that you cast should reflect the ideology, beliefs, and moral justice that you ascribe to. As Black Americans, we must vote for those leaders who support the hopes and dreams of our forefathers, a society in which equality and justice are for all Americans.”
The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) advances the ideals of individual liberties for the advancement of its citizens and the greater prosperity of our communities throughout New Mexico. Led by an Executive Board and its Chairman, former NM Congressman Steve Pearce, RPNM serves all New Mexicans via its headquarters in Albuquerque and can be contacted at (505) 298-3662.

Does Jewll Powdrell have an opinion on GOP efforts to suppress the vote and build the fascist machinery at the local level to over turn elections?

An example of this can be seen in Otero County where three Republican commissioners blocked the certification of the primary vote in the county siting the big lie (Trump won but the election was stole from him).

The Republican party of today is not freeing anyone but rather rushing to authoritarianism. Coup Griffin and others in the New Mexico GOP are still working to destroy democracy in America and trying to convenience all of us that its normal, legal, and right.

This is not normal, the GOP is broken and must be stopped. America is entering the legal phase of fascism. Where the GOP will insist state legislators, governors, or local bodies have the right to alter the vote or throughout ballots.

The GOP also cannot decide if it accepts the support of the log cabin Republicans (gay republicans) or wants to bar them from their events.

It will be the same with black and Latino members of the GOP. As the GOP succeeds in establishing permanent minority rule and sidelines voters they will come back to the “others” in their ranks.

When in power and freed from the need to appeal to voters they will in act laws targeting those others, like the ones we now see in Texas and Florida targeting trans children and their families.

Its time to wake up America, our house is on fire.

  • JH Cole says:

Curtis and Pearce want us to credit the GOP with emancipation (1863-1865) but desperately want us to forget January 6, 2021. Heck, they want us not to notice the ongoing MAGA coup against the Constitution on behalf of the Big Lie.

This is bald hypocritical nonsense even by their standards! With leaders like these, the GOP will stay in the minority in NM.
