The following is a statement from RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce in honor of Cinco de Mayo: “Today is a time to commemorate the past and highlight the many ways Mexican-Americans have influenced and enriched our nation. Cinco de Mayo marks the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the French Empire in 1862. Cinco de Mayo serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting our freedom and liberty. Today’s celebration is one of many traditions brought to this country by those looking for a better life and in search of the American Dream. RPNM honors the achievements of Mexican-Americans, their contributions and treasured culture. As we look to the future, America must remain a nation that finds strength though our many cultures and our diversity.” |
