| SEPTEMBER 4, 2025 – Statement from Amy Barela, Chairwoman of the Republican Party of New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has once again announced yet another special legislative session, set to begin October 1st. This marks the seventh special session under her tenure—and yet, the most urgent challenges facing New Mexicans remain unaddressed. While the Governor blames Washington and points fingers at President Trump, the reality is thatthe hardships New Mexicans face today are the result of years of failed leadership here at home. New Mexico has had billions of dollars in record revenues during this administration, and instead of building stability, prioritizing healthcare access, or addressing food insecurity, those resources were wasted on short-term political projects. If rural healthcare, affordable coverage, and food assistance were truly the priorities she claims, they would have been addressed years ago—not just now, under the cover of “emergency.” Calling lawmakers back for political theater will not fix the systemic problems the Governor has ignored for nearly two terms. New Mexicans are tired of crisis-driven leadership, tired of excuses, and tired of being put last.
