ALBUQUERQUE, JANUARY 10—Today, former President Donald Trump was granted an unconditional discharge following his sentencing, meaning that no further penalties will be imposed. This outcome marks a pivotal moment in a case many have described as politically motivated and an attempt to undermine the will of the American people.
In response to the ruling, former President Donald Trump announced his intention to appeal the decision and seek a dismissal, vowing to restore trust in the justice system. “There is no case, there was never a case, and this whole scam fully deserves to be dismissed,” Trump stated. He reiterated that this case “had no crime, no damages, no proof, no facts, no law.” Trump added, “Today’s event was a despicable charade, and now that it is over, we will appeal this hoax, which has no merit, and restore the trust of Americans in our once great System of Justice.”
The Republican Party of New Mexico Chair Amy Barela issued the following statement, “The recent sentencing of President-Elect Donald J. Trump to an ‘unconditional discharge’ is a blatant reminder of the politically motivated attacks that have plagued his presidency and campaign. This case was never about justice; it was about damaging President Trump’s reputation and undermining the will of the American people. This witch hunt was nothing more than a distraction from the colossal failures of the Biden administration and the Democrats. Donald Trump has proven time and time again that he is a fighter for the American people, and in November, Americans overwhelmingly made their voices clear. It’s time to redirect our focus to the pressing issues that impact New Mexicans, including restoring our economy, addressing crime, improving education, and securing our border. The judicial system should never be weaponized against political opponents. We must stand united in defending the integrity of our democracy and ensuring that justice is served fairly and impartially. The Republican Party of New Mexico will continue to support leaders who prioritize the needs of hardworking Americans over political gamesmanship. As we move forward, I urge all New Mexicans to stand together and demand a government that puts people over politics. Now more than ever, we must remain focused on building a stronger, safer, and more prosperous New Mexico.”
Totally backwards, Chair Barela. Trump brags every day about politicizing the justice system, as in his promise to pardon hundreds of violent criminals from the insurrection and jail the January 6 committee.
—You quoted the convicted felon as if he tells the truth, but did not quote the judge who the Supreme Court sided with. Scared?
—“No crime,” but you didn’t mention Michael Cohen’s three years in prison and 1 1/2 years home detention for following Trump’s orders in the frauds.
Totally backwards. You won’t build a respectable GOP this way.
