| Albuquerque, June 23—The following is a statement from Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce on today’s important U.S. Supreme Court ruling that expands gun rights: “Today’s ruling is a victory when it comes to our Constitutional protections. The 2nd Amendment is a cornerstone to our Democracy, and this 6-3 decision is a win for gun rights advocates. The High Court ruled that Americans have the right to carry firearms in public. New York’s restrictive law was a clear violation of the right to ‘keep and bear arms.’” |

Mr. Thomas’s opinion says that the 2nd Amendment shouldn’t be treated differently than the others. To arrive at this absurdity, SCOTUS’s results-driven majority happily ignored two key facts:
The phrase “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state. . . ,” shouldn’t be dismissed as irrelevant;
And, the fact that the right to bear arms is the only right that when used as intended kills people.
For his part, Mr. Pearce forgets that a big majority of voters want stricter firearm regulations.
