GOVERNOR’S REFUSAL TO COMPLY WITH STATE’S HIGHEST COURT UNETHICAL AND DISHONORS OFFICE

Albuquerque, December 2—The Republican Party of New Mexico condemns Gov. Lujan Grisham for violating the New Mexico Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the spending of federal funds.

On November 17 the High Court ordered Lujan Grisham to stop any further spending of federal pandemic relief funds, agreeing with both Republican and Democratic lawmakers that such spending is the role of the state legislature. Lujan Grisham ignored the fact that the Executive Branch doesn’t have the authority to allocate funds.

Now Lujan Grisham has thumbed her nose at the Supreme Court, paying a $269,000 invoice with the federal money. She violated the Court’s order.

“This is another example of the Governor acting like a dictator and ignoring the other equal branches of government,” said RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce. “What she has done is contemptible, wrong and dishonors the office of Governor. She must be held accountable for openly defying the Supreme Court, and such action must not be tolerated. This governor continues to think she’s the law of the land, and time and time again she has violated her own rules and policies. She is not the ‘Queen of New Mexico’ to do as she pleases. She has to adhere to our constitution and understand that our government has checks and balances.”
The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) advances the ideals of individual liberties for the advancement of its citizens and the greater prosperity of our communities throughout New Mexico. Led by an Executive Board and its Chairman, former NM Congressman Steve Pearce, RPNM serves all New Mexicans via its headquarters in Albuquerque and can be contacted at (505) 298-3662.
