Albuquerque, November 17—The Republican Party of New Mexico is encouraged by today’s NM Supreme Court decision in favor of the legislature in a lawsuit claiming Gov. Lujan Grisham doesn’t have the authority to spend federal relief dollars. In a show of bipartisan support, Senate Republican Leader Greg Baca and Democratic state senator Jacob Candelaria had filed suit in September against the Governor. The following is a statement on today’s ruling from Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce: “We are reassured that New Mexico’s Supreme Court acknowledges that our governmental system has checks and balances. The High Court properly ruled that it’s the legislature’s role to allocate funds as decreed in our state constitution. Gov. Lujan Grisham again exceeded her authority and didn’t play by the rules. She tried to take the constitution for herself in a power grab, but the Supreme Court reminded Lujan Grisham that we have three equal branches of government, each with a specific role.” |
The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) advances the ideals of individual liberties for the advancement of its citizens and the greater prosperity of our communities throughout New Mexico. Led by an Executive Board and its Chairman, former NM Congressman Steve Pearce, RPNM serves all New Mexicans via its headquarters in Albuquerque and can be contacted at (505) 298-3662. |
What did Mr. Pearce and the New Mexico GOP say when president Trump misspent money allocated by Congress for the military to help pay for his wall? They didn’t care about separation of powers then.
Neither the state administration nor the legislature has clear authority over federal funds because the legislature did not appropriate them, so the governor’s claim is iffy at best. In Trump’s case, he clearly thumbed his nose at his coequal branch of government.
Voters would like to see consistency from party leaders, but we sure can’t find it here.
the money for the wall had already been allocated by the previous administration to president Trump. and the wall wasn’t “his” wall.. its the publics border wall. Trump just used the rules against the deep state to actually get things done.
Wrong, false on all counts. More misinformation from the MAGA crowd.
The wall originally was Roger Stone’s idea for a rhetorical tonic during the campaign–and it worked splendidly among a certain population. Some of them now believe wrongly that the Obama Administration spent billions on a wall.
Later, Congress specifically appropriated billions of dollars to the military that the Trump Administration diverted to HIS and Roger Stone’s wall. “Robert”s part of the public might like the monstrosity, but the rational majority of voters know a physical barrier in the countryside causes more damage than it helps to solve a complex problem.
