LATEST SHOOTINGS OF FOUR ALBUQUERQUE POLICE OFFICERS SHOW DUKE CITY OUT OF CONTROL

Albuquerque, August 19—The shootings today of four Albuquerque Police officers again demonstrate how criminals have virtually taken hold of the Duke City.

RPNM will always support our brave law enforcement officers, and we pray that these four officers fully recover from their injuries.

Crime has become a true menace in our New Mexico communities. Murder and shootings have become the norm in Albuquerque neighborhoods. The city is becoming more and more unsafe for residents, students and police. More than half a dozen schools have already been locked down during this first week of school due to shootings.

A key problem is in City Hall.

Mayor Keller and the Democrat-led City Council have repeatedly failed the city and its citizens. How can a person walk the streets now without fear of becoming a crime statistic?

There have been several murders in the past week, and Albuquerque has already shattered its record of 80 homicides in one year.

The buck stops with Mayor Keller, and he and his administration must be held accountable.

It’s time for new leadership at City Hall. That can happen this fall.

“Our hearts go out to these officers and their families, and we hope they fully recover from their wounds,” said Kim Skaggs, RPNM Executive Director. “We cannot tolerate this violence any longer. We need a conservative mayor who will crack down on this crisis and actually do something to stop this infestation. Democrat-led leaders at the local and state level have refused to take meaningful action or pass laws that punish criminals and keep them off our streets. The next mayor has to move Albuquerque into a new direction—one that protects police and our citizens.”

For years, Republicans have pushed bills at the Roundhouse to address this crime crisis—one that continues to fester in our communities—but Gov. Lujan Grisham and Democrats continue to be soft on crime and do nothing.

Today’s horrible shootings again reiterate the need for the Governor to hold a Special Legislative Session immediately to address this escalating crime crisis. The time is now for the sake of the safety of all New Mexicans.
The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) advances the ideals of individual liberties for the advancement of its citizens and the greater prosperity of our communities throughout New Mexico. Led by an Executive Board and its Chairman, former NM Congressman Steve Pearce, RPNM serves all New Mexicans via its headquarters in Albuquerque and can be contacted at (505) 298-3662.
