| IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 15, 2026 Chairwoman Barela releases statement on Tax Day Albuquerque, NM – Please see the following statement by RPNM Chairwoman Amy Barela on Tax Day 2026: “This Tax Day, millions of hard working Americans are benefiting from tax relief measures enacted under President Trump,” says Chairwoman Barela. “This White House is prioritizing working Americans after years of financial strain tied to radical left tax policies. Countless taxpayers are taking advantage of provisions eliminating taxes on overtime, tips, and Social Security income, while many filers have already claimed at least one of these new tax breaks and are seeing higher refunds. The relief brought to us by President Trump is particularly meaningful to New Mexicans this year. A new WalletHub ranking has New Mexico as the fourth worst state in the country for total taxpayer burden and also ranks New Mexico 50th in the country in taxpayer ROI – worse than California in both categories. I am incredibly thankful that the Trump Administration is working to bring economic relief to so many New Mexicans who feel left behind.” Look at the numbers: Over 25 million taxpayers have claimed the No Tax on Overtime provision. Over 6 million taxpayers have benefited from No Tax on Tips. Over 27 million taxpayers have claimed the No Tax on Social Security. Nearly half of all filers so far have claimed at least one of the law’s landmark new tax cuts. 12 million small business owners are seeing an average tax reduction of nearly $7,000. The Working Families Tax Cuts will give children born between 2025–2028 who are U.S. citizens eligibility for a $1,000 government contribution into a Trump Account. ### |
