We can officially put this issue to bed: Mayor Tim Keller’s record on crime has been nothing short of disastrous. Recently, the issue of crime has been a centerpiece in Albuquerque’s mayoral campaign and gained more attention after Keller’s campaign posted a video of him boasting about his record on crime. Despite anything Tim Keller may say, crime statistics in Albuquerque are horrific. “There isn’t a single person in Albuquerque who thinks crime has gotten better under Tim Keller,” said Chairwoman Amy Barela. “The numbers don’t lie. The crime problem in Albuquerque is massive, and not only is Mayor Keller not bothered by that, he’s actually proud of his record!” As Keller continues to boast about his record on crime, the evidence just isn’t there. There is not a single crime-related statistic from any point during his tenure as mayor that shows Albuquerque as a safe city. The violent crime rate in Albuquerque more than triples the national median, while the property crime rate more than doubles it. When measuring crimes per square mile, Albuquerque is almost SEVEN TIMES the national median. While the state of New Mexico consistently ranks among the worst states in the U.S. for crime, Albuquerque has even higher crime rates than the rest of the state, by considerable margins. Keller’s radical left, sanctuary-city policies are directly impacting the crime rate in Albuquerque. Rather than working with federal agencies to remove dangerous criminals from the streets, Keller provides them with a safe haven. Drugs and homelessness are also skyrocketing to alarming levels. The people of Albuquerque deserve a safe community to call home. Safety should not be a partisan issue, and as mayor, Tim Keller has proven that he cannot be trusted to solve this issue. ### |
