After 44 days, the federal government is now open
Not a single Democrat in New Mexico’s Congressional Delegation voted to open the government – not one.

Albuquerque, NM — As President Trump signed the funding bill late last night from the Oval Office, the federal government is now open, despite the repeated attempts from nearly all House & Senate Democrats to keep the government closed. This 44 day shut down, has not only been the longest in history, But it has done an enormous amount of harm to the American people, federal workers, and families who rely on government benefits. As Republicans and a select few Democrats prioritized the American People, the vast majority of Democrats did not, including New Mexico‘s entire congressional delegation.

“It’s truly alarming to know that Senators Heinrich, Lujàn, and the rest of our congressional delegation would rather keep New Mexicans under the burden of a crushing shutdown than show a shred of bipartisanship,” said Chairwoman Barela. “Over 57% of registered voters in New Mexico are NOT Democrat, yet our representation is unwilling to vote across party lines – even if that means ending the longest government shutdown in American history.”

As the government reopens and things go back to normal, it’s also important to remember where elected Democrats have taken New Mexico. Crime, especially violent & adolescent crime, has spiraled out of control, homelessness and drugs are invading our state, children are given one of the worst education systems in the entire country, and a litany of other issues exist because of how Democrats have run our state. It’s is time for Democrats to take their jobs seriously and start addressing the many problems we face as a state. Reopening the federal government is not an accomplishment, it is the single most basic requirement we have for our elected leaders.
