| NEW MEXICO-OCTOBER 22, 2025 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Democrats continue holding our government hostage as we hit Day 22 of the Federal Government Shutdown Albuquerque, NM – As the Democrat Shutdown hits the three week mark, millions of Americans, and thousands of New Mexicans, are at risk of missing paychecks and basic government services they pay for with their hard-earned tax dollars. This shutdown has become one of the longest government shutdowns in our nation’s history. As of today, Democrats in the Senate have voted down a continuing resolution (CR) 12 times which passed in the House last month. “Senate Democrats are blatantly turning their backs on Americans in their ongoing quest to implement their far left, radical agenda,” said Chairwoman Barela. “The hardworking people of New Mexico deserve so much better from their leaders than the shameless political theater going on right now.” To make matters worse, progressive Democrats are putting politics over people by beginning to bully moderate Democrats in an effort to destroy bipartisanship while voting to fund the government. We are approaching the third pay period where Federal employees will not receive a paycheck. The Schumer Shutdown is hurting our military service members and is also affecting our civil service workers, despite the back pay they will receive. This Schumer Shutdown is yet another example of how out-of-touch the Democratic Party is with hard working New Mexico families. For too long, Senators Heinrich and Luján have kowtowed to the radical wing of their Party who, all too often, prioritizes their extreme agenda over the American people. The longer this shutdown continues, the more Americans will continue to suffer. President Trump, Speaker Johnson, and Majority Leader Thune have laid out a path forward to reopening the government in a way that is transparent and puts Americans first. It is time for Democrats to do their most basic job – open the federal government. ### The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) advances the ideals of individual liberties for the advancement of its citizens and the greater prosperity of our communities throughout New Mexico.
