| OCTOBER 15, 2025 – OPINION The absence of oversight doesn’t just happen by accident, it’s engineered. When those in power don’t want oversight, they create systems that hide information, avoid scrutiny, and keep decision-making behind closed doors. This lack of transparency always favors one side: the side that benefits from no accountability. Backdoor deals are made without public discussion or negotiation. Items are slipped into legislation at the last minute, like the recent inclusion of $3 million for Planned Parenthood, with no presentation, debate, or chance for communities to weigh in. These are not transparent decisions made in the open; they are deliberate maneuvers meant to prevent questions. Imagine what $3 million could do if it were spent where the people actually need it; on mental health services, housing for struggling families, youth centers, or resources for law enforcement. Investments like those would save lives, strengthen communities, and provide hope. Instead, the money goes to ending unborn lives, funded by taxpayers who were never even given a say. Oversight is the cornerstone of good governance. It ensures every dollar spent, every program funded, and every law passed is accountable to the public. When oversight is removed, corruption grows in the dark. Deals are cut for political allies, not for the people. This is exactly what we are witnessing under New Mexico’s Democratic leadership. They have perfected the art of bypassing oversight, making backroom deals, pushing through hidden spending, and silencing the people’s voice. It’s time for New Mexicans to say enough is enough. It’s time to vote differently. Vote to save our children. Vote to restore integrity in our schools. Vote to stop government overreach like forced vaccine mandates. Vote to help our veterans and elderly first. Vote to improve healthcare for all New Mexicans. New Mexico deserves leaders who are transparent, accountable, and who put the people, not political agendas, first. Let’s take our state back, together.
