GALLUP, APRIL 9, 2025—The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) expresses its gratitude to U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for his visit today to the Hózhó Academy in Gallup NM, surrounded by the Navajo and Zuni Nations. Secretary Kennedy’s trip highlights his deep commitment to addressing the healthcare and wellness needs of our tribal communities.

During his visit, Secretary Kennedy engaged with students, educators, and local leaders speaking on the importance of healthy eating, physical fitness, and access to quality healthcare—values that echo the legacy of the Kennedy family. His visit to the Hózhó Academy, a school celebrated for integrating healthy living and physical education into its curriculum, left a lasting impression on the nearly 1,000 attendees who filled the gym with enthusiasm and excitement.

Sharon Clahchischilliage, RPNM Congressional District 3 Vice Chair and a Public Education Commissioner for District 5, shared her enthusiasm for the visit:

“Secretary Kennedy’s connection to Native communities is genuine and deeply rooted. He spoke to the kids about his family’s trips through Navajo and Sioux country, and how his father and uncles always prioritized the mental and physical health of tribal nations. He told us he promised tribes during his campaign that he’d look into their needs—healthcare, Indian Health Service challenges, and more—and he’s keeping that promise. It was inspiring to see him connect with the students, warning them that ‘anything in a bag is poison’ and encouraging healthy choices. For me, as a Native woman and educator, it was incredibly encouraging to see someone of his stature show such respect for our sovereignty and truly understand our rural healthcare struggles. He’s a perfect fit for this role.”
