CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE RANKING MEMBER SAYS SMALL MAY HAVE VIOLATED HATCH ACT TO INFLUENCE DEMOCRATIC RACES
Albuquerque, October 3–The Republican Party of New Mexico has learned that USDA Under Secretary for Rural Development and former New Mexico Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small may have broken the law by fundraising for Democrats and her husband, who’s running for the NM House District 36 seat. The Ranking Member of the Congressional Committee on Oversight and Reform, James Comer, is calling on the U.S. Office of Special Counsel to investigate Small for potentially violating the Hatch Act. That prohibits employees in the executive branch from engaging in political activity. Comer says it appears Small may have broken the law by getting involved in political races. In particular, it’s believed Small may have used her influence to raise funds for husband Nathan Small in the District 36 race. As Under Secretary she cannot do this. “This could be a gross violation of federal law, a violation of public trust, and it’s crucial that Small be investigated. It would be inappropriate if she knowingly broke federal law and raised money for her spouse and other Democrats. If true, what Small is doing is not only wrong but exhibits blatant nepotism in a New Mexico election, and it’s shameful that Small would try to influence her husband’s race in this way.” CLICK HERE to read the Congressional committee letter calling for the federal investigation. |

Still nothing from GOP headquarters even after D. Trump admitted he took home national security documents he had no right to and lied to the FBI about it. Soft on treason is what it amounts to.
NM is getting bluer by the week with GOP “leaders” like S. Pearce, K. Skaggs and M. Curtis.
Your silence on the 2020 election, the 1/6 insurrection and Trump’s continuing assault on our form of government must mean you approve of that kind of election violations.
Wow, a diatribe on right and wrong without a single fact, just slimy innuendo! Typical hypocrisy from Steve Pearce, Mike Curtis and Kim Skaggs. (Throw in Mr. Comer, because if he had a fact he probably would have cited it, but he too relied on innuendo.)
Democrats could have said the exact same thing about Trump’s Transportation Secretary Chao (not “Chow”) and her husband McConnell, but Dems usually wait for facts so they didn’t.
You must hope we don’t notice your continuing silence about Trump’s team’s obvious crimes. If memory serves, the last time the word “Trump” appeared in “News and Press” was 8/9 when you lied by calling the 4th Amendment search of Trump’s office a “raid.” Not a word about the steady flow of evidence of crimes against national security, and not a word about their continuing assault on democracy.
For that matter, not a word about the actual investigation into NM GOP’s bogus slate of electors–not a wished-for investigation, a real one that includes bogus elector Steve Pearce.
With “leaders” like you the GOP will stay in the minority in New Mexico.
