Albuquerque, April 13—The Republican Party of New Mexico expresses its support and unwavering appreciation for the brave Forest Service officials, firefighters, community leaders and volunteers who are combatting the rash of wildfires striking our state. Wildfires are spreading in a number of areas around New Mexico, including Ruidoso, Las Vegas, Roswell and Belen. In Ruidoso more than 4,000 people have had to evacuate their homes, 150 structures have been destroyed and more than 4,100 acres are burning. The following is a statement from RPNM Executive Committeeman John Billingsley, a resident of Ruidoso: “As these devastating wildfires here in my community and around the state are causing serious damage and home and school evacuations, firefighters and volunteers are risking their lives, doing everything they can to address this tragedy. I want to show my personal support for these first responders and others who are dealing with this ongoing crisis. I have had many calls from GOP members from across the state who also fully support these brave firefighters and who have also asked how they might be able to help. Our hearts go out to everyone who lost homes and other property. All those fighting the blazes should be commended for their bravery, persistence and dedication to protecting New Mexicans, their homes and businesses. RPNM stands side by side with these heroes who are committed to protecting our communities.” |
