REPORT A VOTING INCIDENT: 505-305-0763

Albuquerque, April 7—The following is a statement from RPNM Executive Committee member Jewll Powdrell regarding today’s Senate confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court. The vote was 53-47.

“Today’s confirmation vote was another victory for the extreme left. President Biden’s pick was one promoting radical policy and leftist interpretation of the law. Judge Jackson may make history with her confirmation, but her sentencing record is questionable, particular when it comes to those in child pornography cases, where she handed down light sentences to offenders. When asked during hearings, Jackson was also unable to define what a woman was. This kind of progressive, radical thinking is dangerous when it comes to sensitive and important interpretations on the High Court.”
The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) advances the ideals of individual liberties for the advancement of its citizens and the greater prosperity of our communities throughout New Mexico. This unattributed “Statement” repeating unpopular talking points from Lyin’ Ted, Marsha Blackburn and others points to continued minority status for the Grand Old Party in New Mexico. The vast majority of the country, including in New Mexico, supported Justice Jackson’s confirmation and recognized the rude, almost-racial grilling as nothing but mean-spirited grandstanding.

Most people also remember that when Ruth Bader Ginsberg was confirmed with 98 votes every Senator knew her philosophy was on the far left, even farther left than most Democratic Senators. Back then, though, individual conscience and respect for the separation of power were more important to senators than partisanship and running for president. This shows how rotten the process has become and some of the GOP’s role in the decline.

By the way, when Senators Blackburn and Cotton were asked by reporters to define “woman,” they tried but failed. One tried “chromosomes,” but not all women were born with two X chromosomes, and one tried “uterus,” but many women no longer have one–my wife for example. Justice Jackson’s answer was the only sensible one: It’s not really a matter of Constitutional law.

Most New Mexicans know all this and suspect GOP leaders do, too.
But in the absence of responsible leadership on the right they will vote to keep Democrats in the majority.

Sorry, but your comment doesn’t represent me or any fellow New Mexicans in my circle. KBJ was picked because she herself is a woman with black skin.
A woman who can’t define what a woman is should not have been confirmed.
