Albuquerque, January 24—The following is a statement from RPNM Executive Director Kim Skaggs on the Governor’s decision to put National Guard troops into the state’s classrooms and to volunteer herself as a substitute teacher: “Once again the Governor isn’t putting New Mexico students first. Our children are now being taught by people who are not certified educators. It’s clear that students are not the Governor’s priority when it comes to education. You need quality teachers in our schools. Our education system remains the worst in the nation. This is an act of desperation and poor government leadership. New Mexico’s National Guard shouldn’t be put into this position. It’s unfair to them and it’s unfair to our students.” “As far as the Governor teaching in classrooms herself, it’s just a publicity stunt. This Governor has failed our students and failed to invest in our education system. The lack of teachers is a blatant result of the Governor and Democrat-led legislature refusing to address our education crisis head-on. The Governor has jeopardized our children’s future by allowing this teacher shortage to happen and not taking the appropriate actions to fix our education problems.” |
The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) advances the ideals of individual liberties for the advancement of its citizens and the greater prosperity of our communities throughout New Mexico. Led by an Executive Board and its Chairman, former NM Congressman Steve Pearce, RPNM serves all New Mexicans via its headquarters in Albuquerque and can be contacted at (505) 298-3662. |
When the GOP rejoins reality then we can hear their ideas about how to fix education in New Mexico. Also notice that this article presents no ideas or solutions. What does a party that can’t or won’t understand how elections work, denies climate change as it is unfolding, and believe racism was “solved” in the 19th or 20th centuries have to contribute here, the answer is nothing.
Republicans are dependent on keeping people ignorant its the only way people are going to continue voting for them.
I have a question for Steve Pearce (505) 298-3662 and I am hoping he can educate me about were he and the GOP stand on American Democracy.
Steve, have you now or in the past supported the coup against America to keep Trump in office?
The Kim Skaggs I met before the 2020 election was pleasant and constructive, so this whiny appeal to the Trump base surprises me. Her name-calling omits the fact that administrations of both parties helped cause the crisis in New Mexico’s schools, and that Governor Martinez made no dent in the problem in her eight years.
She omits the fact that a society’s poverty rates directly effect educational success, and both parties have had little success improving our economy, either.
She fails to consider options to using National Guard troops in the schools, which include doubling or tripling classes or have no teacher in the classroom at all. She only complains.
Here’s a question: Ms. Skaggs, what is the GOP’s specific plan to improve this very difficult educational problem? Don’t give us rhetorical flourishes against Democrats, what is your program?
