Albuquerque, September 11—Today marks 20 years since the September 11, 2001 attacks on America, four coordinated attacks by al-Qaeda that killed nearly 3,000 people on American soil. The Republican Party of New Mexico remembers the victims of 9/11 and honors the many heroes on that harrowing day that has permanently changed America and the world. RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce issued these remarks on this 20th anniversary of the darkest page in American history: “Today we commemorate the 9/11 attacks 20 years later. We remember and honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 Americans who died in the Twin Towers, Pentagon and rural Pennsylvania. Many of those brave Americans fought the terrorists and managed to save lives. We also pay tribute to the many first responders and others—true heroes—who sacrificed their lives to save others in this horrific attack. This assault on our country was an attack on our freedoms, democracy and our way of life. This 9/11 anniversary is particularly painful as we also remember the 13 American service members killed last month in terrorist attacks in Afghanistan. Now that we have withdrawn from Afghanistan, it appears the seeds of more terrorist attacks have been planted. On this somber day, we honor those victims of 9/11 and pray that America remains vigilant and strong in the war on terror.” |
