Albuquerque, June 8—The following is a statement from RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce on yesterday’s NM Supreme Court ruling against businesses affected by the state’s pandemic health orders. The Justices unanimously decided that struggling or closed establishments are not automatically entitled to compensation to cover their devastating losses.

“This is the latest example of the New Mexico Supreme Court politicizing its rulings. The Democrat-dominated high court—some on the bench appointed by the Governor–continues to rule in favor of the Lujan Grisham administration. This ruling defies logic, fairness and justice and is an insult to our hurting business communities that have had to endure hardship and forced permanent closings. This Court refuses to be objective or to understand what’s at stake for our small businesses and their employees. The decision also clearly reveals that the NM Supreme Court will allow the Governor to use her apparent unlimited power to do as she chooses.”
The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) advances the ideals of individual liberties for the advancement of its citizens and the greater prosperity of our communities throughout New Mexico.
