Albuquerque, June 3—The following is a statement from Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce regarding the state’s decision to place all counties at the lowest restrictive color level: “The Governor’s decision to put all counties in the turquoise category is her latest political ploy to put herself in a good light. She even admits that five of our 33 counties do not qualify under her “science,” but decides to do it anyway. This is political theater—a whitewashing—and her action is an insult to all New Mexicans. The Governor has been playing political roulette with this silly color-coded system, and there’s no true science or consistency in the use of her crayon box. Her decisions have shuttered businesses, hurt our local economies, closed our schools—affecting students, teachers and parents—and even forced some students to attend schools out of state. Her impulsive, unscientific decisions also led to suicides and statewide mental health problems. This Governor again breaks her own rules for political expediency, and this has cost our state dearly.” |
