ALBUQUERQUE, SEPTEMBER 17 — The following is a statement from Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce regarding the few changes announced today by the governor regarding her Public Health Order:
“Today Gov. Lujan Grisham continued her piecemeal, illogical approach to reopening our state. She doesn’t understand the big picture of what’s happening in New Mexico. Just easing restrictions on youth sports, camping and pumpkin patches (having 10 or fewer participate) is not going to get New Mexico moving again. Data show we are doing better than our neighboring states, but the governor refuses to allow our economy to reopen, basing her decisions on her ‘science.’ Her lack of action means more students will continue to fall behind because they cannot attend class; bars and entertainment venues remain closed, and many restaurants and other businesses are suffering with their mandated limited capacity. Our tourism industry is dying and quarantines remain in place. Today the governor said we should ‘celebrate’ the state’s progress, but this is hardly the time with so many New Mexicans hurting as a result of her poor and ill-timed decisions.”
